puffers in a 29 gallon?

Fish Crazy
hey guys i was wondering if anyone knew if there are any puffers out there that would do good in a 29 gallon tank with LR(lots of hiding) and a fuzzy dwarf puffer. or are they all to large for it? thanks.

i don't think any puffer will fit a 29 gall to full size and by fuzzy dwarf puffer im assuming you mean fuzzy dwarf lion :P

Yeah, you can do those dwarf puffers like the hawaiian toby valentine toby. They aren't really reef safe if you have inverts and corals. Just don't do any of the bigger puffers.

I would put any marine puffer in a 29 personally.
Oh you could do those backish puffers too, like a figure 8, or a green spotted.
Megaspoot, you would put a 15 inch mappa puffer in a 29?

I think meant wouldn't?

I have a Hawiian toby in my 55gal QT right now and fell like that's more like what the minimum should be. They're really fast swimmers when they want to be (his tail's huge!) and could out sprint my blueface angel no problem.

The fuzzy dwarf would be a lot of bioload by itself and the toby would only be that much more.

I have a toby puffer (canthigaster emprilampus Sp?) in my 45 with a purple psuedochromis and a chocolate chip star. It's a nice sized tank for him and he's mostly a model citizen. I don't know if I would go much smaller than the 45 with him though, they get bored and tend to get nippy when too tightly confined, also they are messy eaters so the extra water volume helps.

You should see the cloud of oyster that comes out of my puffer's gills after he eats one. It is a MESS!

I have housed my Valentini puffer in my 34 gallon for over 1 year without a problem. He seems very happy. He is very fat and eats well. Does not bother anyone else in the tank, but he does eat all inverts.

yea i meant lion Ranzan haha sorry. so it kind of mixed reviws then i guess? what are the dwarf puffers if there is any.

LOL, that was a typo. Would NOT put any marine puffer in a 29g. Bare minimum would be a 55g for tobies. F8's are do better at lower salinities.

But 15" mappa is under that 1" per gallon rule for a 29g tank! LOL, what a stupid rule!
I kinda figured that after that next post. I've read an article or two saying that as mature fish, figure 8's and other small puffers went almost exclusively marine. So it can be done, although I'm not one to actually do it. It do think that would be nicer to a fish than sticking a porky in a 30 gallon tank.
Yeah, I love when I hear people say oh one inch per gallon in fish. It just makes no sense whatsoever!

Green Spotted Puffers are typically kept in a full marine environment once they mature.

Figure 8's are kept at a much lower "brackish" salinity.

so wait i can put figure 8's in a marine tank?

You can, but they have been found to live the longest in low brackish conditions, over 15 years.

amoore was saying that green spotted puffers were good in marine evironments, figure 8s were better brackish.
