Today I bought a foxface the size of my hand. (Thank you Scott) I have had them before, but much smaller. It has caused me a little concern about having my hands in the tank after seeing all of his venomous spikes.

As I understand, the sting leads to Anaphylaxis which is treated with epinephrine. Do you think any doctors would be willing to give a prescription for a shot (like people with allergic reactions to bee stings) to have on hand in the reef supply cabinet?

yeah, you are going to have to get stung, have the allergy established and then get a prescription based on the severity of the allergic reaction.

good luck!

You may not even have much of a problem with it, in the case you do get stung. Some people are allergic, some aren't. Keep your hands away from the FoxFace and just be aware of it at all times and I doubt you will have any issues. I would be more concerned about a Lionfish than a FoxFace.

I don't really expect to get that close to him. Most of the fish stay away when My hands are in the tank. It's mostly just the "What if" lurking.

I would doubt that you'll get stung unless you were harassing him. But in case you do, I would take a benedryl and head to the emergency department. Epipens are typically used for anaphylatic shock, especially when there's some sort of respiratory problem. From the person I've seen get stung by a rabbit fish, his hand became swollen with pain. Although different people react differently to allergic reactions, I would doubt you would need to have an epipen for the what if moments.

I think I'd print out the info and have it ready in case you have to go to the emergency room. I can just see walking in and telling them I had been stung by a FoxFace. I doubt that you'll ever have to use it. They tend to stay out of the way (unless you try to harass it as has been mentioned or try to catch it),

From what I understand their sting is much like a bee sting. Some people are highly allergic and some aren't. My foxface usually hides from me when im working in the tank and I only think you would have a chance of getting stung if you tried to grab him.
