Pulse Mode Question

I just received my new MP40w. For pulse mode, I press the mode button three times and the led is now blue. I then set the dial to a speed and press set. The led blinks off and on about every second along with the speed of the pump. Then is stalls and stops. I must be doing something wrong. Help?
