Pulsing Xenia help

Hello, everyone. Been helped a lot by this forum but first time posting. I have a new biocube 14 that is cycled and set up with an Eagle Eye polyp, a trumpet coral, and a pulsing Xenia. My Xenia frag looks like it's being pushed too much. When I unplug the power head it starts to"wave" the way it should, but there's no place in the tank I can get it to do that with the powerhead on. In other words I cannot find an area with low enough flow. Is the powerhead too strong? Is this a situation that will change as the frag grows bigger/stronger? The Xenia is in the lower left of the tank and the powerhead is pointed to the right. So the frag is actually to the left of the power head and the flow is pointing away from it, but the flow is still too strong.

It sounds like the flow is circling in the tank, try moving the frag to a different location and observing, also consider the height as possible movement to find a lower flow location that you are looking for.

Yea, you definitely do not want dead spots in your tank, that is usually where things start to show up that you do not want. How powerful is your powerhead? Be careful what you wish for with Xenia, that is one of the things that has been known to take over many tanks, along with mushrooms, GSP, and kenya trees. What are your plans for the tank?

Thanks for the warning. I had heard that about xenia. I'm not planning to do too much more with the tank then what I've written. I'm keeping the stock lighting and have gotten pretty much all the softies and lps that I like. I'm planning to add another small fish, a cleaner shrimp, and some star polyp.

Take my advice, unless you want Xenia all over your tank, get it out now. I made the noob mistake of putting it in my 75g and it spread everywhere. I had to take drastic measures to get rid of it and lost more than I bargained for.

I disagree with everyone that's states et rid of it, because its spreads every where. I have had a rock with Xenia on it for over a 2 years now and. it has not spread to any place but the rock it's on, unless I frag a piece a piece by puttin rock rubble in the middle. Maybe my tank is to clean or doesn't have the key to spreading every where like a wildfire.

In the attached picture right at the bottom of the tang is where my Xenia farm has stayed and hasn't grown or moved to another rock.

Xenia tends to be one of those corals that acts differently for different people. Some people it'll take over a tank and others can't keep the stuff alive.

OTOH, I've seen some tanks on here that are dominated by xenia and are amazingly beautiful and mesmerizing. Different strokes for different folks :).

What is wrong with Xenia spreading? It is not agressive, is easily pushed back by most other corals and keeps the tank clean. I could not imagine having a tank without all those little waving hands :)

...and Teddynola, your tank looks great!

I agree with high flow. Mine has little fingers until the flow changes then it blooms out some. It really likes the lower flow at night, but daytime is much higher flow and it is not happy.

Mine do great in both high and low flow. I will say they look nicer in low flow. I am currently building a larger tank, and have decided if these will go in. I believe they can be controlled via fraging. Unlike the Kenya tree that simply falls off, drop/float to the neat spot.

I agree.. I have a small section I got last weekend. I like the way it moves and everything. Just trying to find it's optimum flow is a pain.

Mine doesn't seem to have any issues with flow -- even when right in front of an MP10. Grows all over the place,
