Pump having problems with startup

Hello,

I am having trouble with a tunze 6060 when it starts up. I took out the impeller and it looks like this. I got this used so I am unsure of how it looks new.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This little black piece seems to pop out

The other side doesn't have this black piece at all.

Those little black "pieces" are called the brakes. They stop the impeller from rotating the wrong direction by extending outwards when the impeller spins in the wrong direction. This stops the impeller and it will begin to rotate in the proper direction at which point the brakes retract back into the impeller body. You need both and the existing one looks damaged as well.

I believe it's part number 3000.660 and a pair is $2.62

I would order the complete drive unit 6080.600, I say that because one brake shoe has fallen out and usually this would only happen if one of the cogs that engages the brakes on the magnet has worn out. The new brake shoes will likely also fall out easily and they should stay retracted and only move out about half way when rotated counterclockwise.
