the output of my dart hybrid is 1.5" i was thinkin of using braided hose to alow some flexability but can only find 1.25,will this be a problem? i have to dial the current pump way back as its to much for the overflows, its a dolphin ampmaster. thanks steve

Since you already need to dial back, I don't see the size as a problem. Just make sure it's either neoprene or pvc; some types of rubber and plastic will leach phosphates or processing chemicals, and/or will break down and fail fairly quickly when exposed to corrosive minerals such as salt.

I just ordered the Ultra-Flex PVC from Marine Depot, very flexible and comes in 1" and 1.5"

I am using it for my new basement sump.

Its going to cost a lot more than PVC, but as long as the inner diameter is 1.5" it shouldn't be an issue. I would go with the pvc just because of the expense and ease of use. I have some 1.5" braided on one of my drains from the tank and it is definitely not easy stuff to work with.

thanks guys, ive been using the clear braided hose for the water going from the dt to my sump in the basement, have not seen any problems with that so far.although i cant tell if its leaching anything. will the clear vinal hose be ok?

It doesn't leach anything, at least not yet. :) It tends to do better on long runs than it tight situations where you have to manipulate it. It also has a tendency not to come back off of the nipples, so if you have to change it or move it, you have a 50/50 chance of having to replace the nipple it is attached to.

I like using vinyl; just boil up a pot of water, turn off the heat and feed the tube through the water straighting it as it comes out. For bends and fittings i just give it another bath. The rate you use varies with the size of the tubing. It's like forming mouth guards if you've ever done that.

the pluming store i was at today actually had 1.5 spaflex so i went with it.and the guy that waited on me actually guessed, is this for a fresh or salt water tank? he went on to say that there has been a lot of people building stills.
