Pumps

Don't order one through D&T, they have great prices, but I ordered one almost 4 months ago. It was on backorder (didn't know it until 2 weeks after I ordered it) for 6 weeks, and I've emailed them 3-4 times in the last 3 weeks with no response. I FINALLY found a phone number for them, but keep getting a generic answering machine.

Two Maxijets use as much power as a Dart that's throttled down a bit and IMO that 400-600 gph In a 180 with 1 1/2 In hose Is not even gonna move the water around much, 2-300 gph per return would make a good sea horse tank IMO. I would use a QO 6000 with a valve to adjust the flow as needed. But that Is just my opinion.

You are right. I don't go for flow at all with the return pump -- just movement through the sump.

One good thing about this hobby Is that many way's of running a tank work, I guess the best one Is the one that works best for the tank owner. All we can do Is make suggestions from our experience and they must take It from there. I agree that power usage must be a factor In running our tanks and thus I use one pump for all my needs, and adjust all the flow to what Is needed for that particular piece of equipment. I have reduced my power usage quite a bit through this method, Where B4 I had a separate pump for each Item and lots more heat going Into my tank now one pump does It all.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like I am going to order the QO6000.

I do have someone wanting to trade me a Pan World 100x-x for my dart, not sure if it is quiet though.

Call petsmart, I know they carry QO, but not sure if they have the 6000. Might not be the cheapest, but its local and no shipping, just an fyi......

Actually, the QO is quiet..no misnomer whatsoever.

Call the critter. They still have a 6000 on the shelf at 40% off. Means it is jsut about 100 bucks...so if that is within the price range you can get online, then maybe a little faster way to get one.

BTW, I am not only a proponent of the QO pump..I own and use 3 of them with no issues at all.

I have a 3000 that I also have no noise issues with (in sump though, maybe it's louder externally?) either. I was planning on replacing it with a 4000 when it came in. D&T has them for $58, but, unfortunately, I haven't heard back from them since ordering it 3 months ago. I did get all of the other stuff I ordered though, honestly, I hope that it's just some mix up.

If the Critter has one left at that price It will be the cheapest for Online Is around 120.00 plus shipping. I think Rhett may have bought that pump but I could be wrong.

If you have two returns, you could also split each to use a separate pump rather than branching off one pump. I ran my 125 off of two 3000's for a while. they worked very well and were very silent. It was only when I tried to go big with the 9000 that I found it to be loud. Thing I also liked with two pumps was the redundancy it offered.

I just wanted to update this thread and say that I FINALLY received my pump direct from LifeGuard today, apparently the problem was all their's, and not D&T's. So, I got my 4000 for $58. Unfortunately, I'm still awaiting a response from D&T to my numberous attempts to contact them.

How much you want for your dart if you don't trade?
