pure bio filter?

does anyone out there just use biological filtration.

all i have filtering my tank right now is live rock, a skimmer and a ball of cheato. i do have sand in their but i dont believe it is live yet as the tank is only 2 months old.

is it possible for me to just run my tank with this or will i need some other form of mechanical filtration?

I think the majority of subscribers here on Reef Central use biological filtration. What you're running is a typical set-up. Your sand would certainly be live after running the tank for 2 months with live rock. The sand would have technically become "live" once the first organism moved off your live rock and took up shop in the sand bed. Your sand should have a decent population by now.

Running your tank as is will be fine barring any problems.
