Purigen and Matrix in QT

I just put a Eibli angel in my qt, with a slight case of Popeye, and treated with Maracyn 2. I think my problem might be that, the qt is a 24 gal. aquapod, in which I have changed the filtration system. I had removed the original, block sponge and bioballs, and replaced with Seachem Matrix and Purigen, for both chemical and biological filtration.

Correct me if I'm wrong but should I remove the Matrix and Purigen, so as not to have those products absorb the Maracyn2, with which I am treating the tank? I do still have some live rock rubble and a couple bioballs in there to provided some filtration. The tank is currently barebottomed.

While I'm medicating, I guess I should do frequent water changes and feed sparingly, so as not to cause an ammonia spike. Am I on the right track?

Carbon and Purigen will adsorb the medicants. Use them with a water change after the treatment is finished to remove them. Best not to feed during treatment to minimize ammonia output.
