Purigen - Tell me about your experiences with it

I was given a free bottle of Purigen by Seachem.

Has anyone used this before?

Is it effective?

I have not used it myself, but I would recommend using it as you would using activated carbon, and expect similar results.

Anyone have experiences to relate?

I don't use it in my reef tank, but I've found it to be very effective in keeping the ammonia down in my quarantine tank, which wasn't properly cycled or seeded at the time.

I use it in addition to the carbon. If I forget to change the carbon as often as I should it helps soak up some organics. I am not sure what exactly it absorbs but it does change color over time so it must be taking something out. What I like about it is that you can re generate it over night in 50:50 bleach and water. Then soak in some fresh water with chlorine remover and it's ready to go again.

I've been using it in a reactor along with phosban and carbon running 24/7...every little bit helps.
