purity chemical supply

Hi all,

Is anybody going there anytime soon and wouldn't mind picking me up some Ca Chloride and magflake? I cant get there because they are only open business hours and I work up in San Rafael. Obviously I would reimburse and throw in a frag if I have something you would like. Anyways let me know.

or alternatively does anybody know of a chemical supply in Marin?

They only have cal chloride(Dow), I don't think they have magflake.

well, i found this alternative for bulk calcium at leslies pool supply in novato:

Here is a MSDS on the product. It appears to be pure and made by DOW:

Been using it for a few weeks now and no problems so it appears to be a good alternate source for bulk calcium.

Good job with your research Jed. That appears from the fact sheet to be a viable source of calcium chloride for use in making calcium supplement for our tanks. And inexpensive too.

I posted the question to the Reef central chemistry forum years ago about this product, but since they didn't have this product tested yet they couldn't provide me with any advice at that time so I didn't use it. It might be a good idea to go there and ask the question again to make sure before using it long term.

yea, I was a bit leery at first, but the MSDS sheet looked good and it is made by DOW which also makes Dowflake and dowpellet (as you all know). in fact it appears to be dow pellet. Also it appears there are a few people using it on reef central. I will update this thread if anything goes wrong or appears to suffer for the use of the product.
