Purple and powder blue tang together

I have only one tang in the tank and its a purple one, its been in there for 3 years, is it worth trying to keeping it in there when adding a new powder blue tang? Thanks

how big is your tank?
Usually even in big tanks, I will move the PT and add the PBT... reintroduce PT later.

I have a 3.5 YO PBT. I added a PT about a year ago, which grew from a quarter sized baby to larger than the PBT. He is aggressive to the PBT now. I'm probably going to remove the PT eventually.

i had tried to add a 3" purple tang to a 6' 100gal long with a existing 7.5" powder blue tang. i ended up removing the pbt a week later.
when the powder blue gets to be 7" it's pacing will look cramped in your 125. at 8" your 125 will be downright small. at the max 9" if you have it that long and they grow fast, you will or should be finding it another home.
my powder blue tangs started small ~2.5" in my 6' 100gal and grew to 9" in four to five years. i've had a purple that long now which started at ~2" and has been a good 4" for the last three of five years, although it may have jumped to 4.25" this year i'll have to check.
get my point?

My opinion. Thats a No No, Espcailly with a P-Tang. He is allready established in that Tank and trust me anything else you put in there with him well get brutalized slowly. I would remove the P-tang for a week or so. Move the rock work around. Put the P.B.T in. At the same time it might be a risk and another headache trying to catch it and take it out. Again. I have the same size tank with a Aus. Tusk, A pair of Mystery wrasses and the P-Tang was the last i put in. Anything i tried to put in there. It got Harrased none stop by the P-tang. Frustrated trying to catch it and mvoe and mess everything around. I just keep my tank with them 4. Only.

purples i've found are soooo insanely aggressive its amazing, not just to other tangs. i probably wouldnt try adding a pbt....i have a 5foot 90gal, and i got the purple when he was size of a quarter, added a foxface that was atleast double the size of the purple he tried to bully the foxface, until the morning i noticed lots of white spots on the purple (the foxface must of stuck the purple with his spines) after that they were good...fast forward 6months later added a flame angel, only reason the flame survived was he could hide in some smaller coves....then another 3months after that, added a lawnmower blenny...i woke up in the morning and was shocked to see the purple beating up the blenny! kept batting and tail slicing the blenny....that was 15$ wasted...

so just saying that pbt's are ich magnets to begin with supposedly, a purple will just make it worse...lol only fish i'd wanna introduce to a established purple tang is either a clown tang or sohal..ha...(the only 2 meaner fish)

my purple doesn't really bother any of the other fish other then a occasional flick when competing for food. it been fine with a blackfoot clownfish, ora indigo dottyback and cbbf of the same size. haven't tried to add other fish since but plan on getting a blackline fang blenny soon and don't expect any problems there.
