Purple Condylactis Gigantea from bluezooaquatics

I had one before. They move around a lot. Clowns typically do not host them. They sell them a petco. You can get them all day long. They are cheap and most people don't like them. They're pretty, but you don't want one. Besides, that picture is deceiving from what they really look like.

Get a Mag, Gig, or Sebabe!

Thanks guys. Yes, I've seen a few that color as well, but not many. That photo on bluezooaquatics almost looks like the anemone was dyed. Is that done? Hope not. Maybe I'll just contact them and ask.

I'm not planning do the clownfish thing.

I'm setting up a seagrass caribbean biotope tank, so I want to do caribbean anemones with commensal shrimps and/or crabs. If anyone can suggest a better choice of caribbean anemone I'm all ears. I'd be very interested to know which ones are the hardiest, least wandering, or if anyone has experience with any of them they'd like to share, that would be most helpful.

It would be great to hear from someone who's kept these guys before and could give some insights, pointers, etc.

I've seen purple ones that color before. They exist.

They can change color....from all white, to pink or purple tips, to full pink or purple...I've had them grow very large with 12"+ 'tentacles' and they have hosted many different types of clowns. They will kill corals when they 'take a walk'!

Rock/flower anemones are from the Caribbean

Yes, flower anemones, Epicystis crucifer, is a Caribbean species and it stays put. Some people are able to get a condy to stay put, when that happens it seems to be that the foot is in a hole/crevice in the rock and the column is surrounded, at least part way by the rock--similar to BTAs.

Thanks, guys. Yes I am considering the flowers too.

I'm not too concerned about some wandering, since corals are not the focus of this tank. As long as it finds a home eventually. I've had success with rose bubble tips, and I'm doing the research, so I'm optimistic I can give them a good home.

I checked with blue zoo aquatics and they got right back to me. They get the purple ones from Haiti, and they assured me they are that purple, so that's probably what I'll go with.

Still I'd love to hear from some condylactis veterans and/or anyone who's kept any of the caribbean anemones.

Please post pictures of your display when you're finished. I love biotopes. Are you going to keep any of the commensal shrimp species with it?

Yes, I'm planning to do some of the commensal anemone shrimps, like Periclimenes yucatanicus, which is a cleaner shrimp. They're beautiful and, since they provide a useful service to the fish, hopefully won't get eaten!
