Do you guys have purple rim efflo? If so when is it going up for sale? And under what category? Thanks

Tajjo,

Our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility does still propagate this coral in small numbers. We are hoping to have a few ready mid to late January.

If you haven’t done so already, we would recommend signing up for our Email Alerts for when new items are added at the following link:

Tajjo,

We have an update for you on the Purple Efflo. According to our Aquacultured and Marine Life Facility, we will be having two specimens of this coral added to the Diver’s Den section later today.

Aquaticman74,

Thank you for your interest in the Efflo. We will be checking with our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility to see if the specimens were added to the Diver’s Den today. Once we find further information in this, we will be posting it here.

I purchased on of these about 6 months ago labeled purple edge efflo and I believe it is in fact a soly based on the growth patterns I have gotten from it. Check it out. It has short fused branches which I believe is a trait of the soly's.

BTW, the colors are much nicer than this in reality. green with purple edge. Thi pic was taken with flash after the tank lights had gone out completely tonight, so it is kinda washed out, but you get the idea.

Aquaticman74,

I want to apologize for the confusion on this plating Acropora spp.. We did in fact only add the Acropora solitaryensis to the site yesterday, as opposed to the less branched form Acropora efflorescens.

These two corals are very difficult to identify and distinguish between each other in the home aquarium, especially when they are frags.

If we take a close look at some of the images Charles Veron shows in the book Corals of the World, most people scratch their heads, and try and make an educated guess on identification. Two of the pictures look very similar when they are smaller colonies when looking at the radial and axial corallites. As these corals grow out to a size of two or three feet in diameter, the differentiations between these two species become much more apparent.

Below are links to the images I am referring to:
Acropora efflorescens

Acropora solitaryensis

They are very close in how they look. They are also my favorite corals. I picked up two colonies of soli and the green efflo you are aquaculturing from you guys already. I've been looking to grab the purple rim efflo you are aquaculturing as well.

Did the DFS Kevin purple rim soli come from your own personal tank?

Aquaticman74,

Thank you for your inquiry about the DFS Kevin’s Purple Rim Soli. This beautiful soli was fragged from a coral that came from Kevin’s personal stock.

SPStoner-I was one of the lucky two that got a Soli when they were posted Friday morning. How is the growth rate on this coral?

Thanks

d4a2n0k,

Thank you for your post. Unfortunately, at this time we are unsure of the growth rate for the Purple Rim Soli. Our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility is currently closed and will re-open tomorrow morning. Once we have this information for you we will post in here.

We thank you for your patience.

d4a2n0k,

Thank you for your post and patience. The lovely Purple Rim Soli coral has been reported to grow moderately fast for a plating coral. The condition for this type of growth is in a SPS aquarium with a very strong water flow rate. The possibility for growth achievement can be from 1 inch to over 12 inches in several years dependent upon the aquarium conditions.

We hope you find this information helpful. If you have further questions, we will be happy to help you.
