I brought a gorgonian last weekend . It opened up as soon as I put it in my tank,... it was only half open the day after, and since then hasn't opened.
ive tried more flow etc but this has made no difference.its been about a week since it opened up ...should i be worried...

Does anybody have any thoughts?
 
dont know the name off hand ..it has brown polyps....and is photosynthetic...i do feed pretty good around it ..its not falling apart so i think its ok....and have good flow on it too...i also tried less flow for a few days ..but same result...
 
it's probably shedding - they do this often and is nothing to be worried about. make sure it has significant flow, and try to blow it off with a turkey baster.
 
Post pic if you dont know what species you have. They do shed periodically, and if newly placed this is very common. Put it in moderate flow area.
 
you are probably right....when i first put it in the tank...it shed like crazy...i thought it was dying..now it just looks like it has a waxy color to it ..kinda shiny too....just worried that it hasn't extended its polyps for a few weeks now..... but has no algae on it either...
 
I have my purple whip directly in front of my pump and it loves it, it grew a larger base to hang on tighter. I have had for almost a year and fwiw have never seen it shed though once every few weeks it won't have any polyps out for a day
 
i did try pointing my power head directly at it for a day or so and still didn't extend ...so its been a month and nothing...but it still seems ok not dying off...hmm
