Purple gorgonian

Hello,

I got a purple non-photosynthetic gorgonian, I added it to my coral/invert small QT tank and I would like to know if it's okay for the gorgonian to have the top of his branches laying at the surface of the water. It mean some part are not immersed...

I am planning to keep it there for 72 days, then move to my 40G tank.

Also, I started target feeding mysis to the gorgonian, is this food okay ?

Mysis is way to big, it needs to be smaller food like zooplankton. It also needs to be fully submerged.

I hate to say this, but 99% of non photosynthetic gorgs, typically die in very short order in our tanks.

Thanks for answering, just ordered seachem zooplankton, hopefully will get it asap.

I have ready brine shrimp eggs in liquid, its okay to feed them or useless ?

Unfortunately I don't think I have seen a single non photosynthetic gorg living long term in our tanks. Regardless of how much or what was fed to them.

The thinking is we cannot offer the kind or amount of food they need to survive. If we did our tanks would be polluted to a point nothing else would live in it.

That's too bad because they really looks great and add a lot to a reef tank.

I will try my best to keep it alive.

One of those things best left in the ocean. Thats why it's important to research and read about future purchases then asking questions if your still uncertain. People have had success with photosynthetic gorgs if you want to keep one. Personally I'd love to have a blue seafan but I know it would never survive.
