Purple Hornet Placement

Where do you keep yours?

High light, medium light, low light?

In the shade like Purple Death Palys?

High flow, medium flow, low flow?

In front of an MP10, 36 inches away, somewhere in between?

I started low light and low flow on the sandbed. After 3 months, I moved to center of the tank with low flow, still on the sandbed. I have not gone any higher in light. My par in the current placement is about 100.

if you put them high you must acclimate-mine are now directly under 250W hallides and the purpole is near black

i've had my purple deaths for 5 years and purple hornet for over a year now. you can place them anywhere from my experience. the only difference is that when you put them on the sand bed the good thing about it is that the crabs and snails can clean up the algae that can accumulate on the frags while if you put them high the crabs will rarely find it on placement. It will still clean it when it finds it although it takes them a little longer to find the frag. when it comes to flow. if you just got the frag i would place it under low flow until it heals in the frag then you can put them anywhere you want to. either way anywhere is fine as long as you have a lot of cleaning crew.

Ok so I was at the LFS to pick up a power head when I saw this in their frag tank.

What do you think, the real deal? Sorry for the quality of the picture.

I am leaning towards that they are as the skirt has alternating green and purple in it.

The LFS is holding this for me for the next 24 hours.

Their african blue steel hornets, nothing like purple or blue hornets, no alternating skirt color just a ring in the center.

I wish I can get a better picture, but from what I saw, there is an alternating green /yellow and purple.

I"ll look up the blue steel hornets also to see what they are. Btw, what are some of the LFS asking for the Blue Steel Hornets similar or cheaper price to purple hornets?

Blue steels are much cheaper then purple hornets, if their not something is wrong lol. Ive seen steels for $5 pp.

LFS around here sell them for $0.50 pp. Not that the place was selling per polyp, I just got a rock with 50+ polyps for $25. They like higher light and decent flow. I have them with my sps and theyseem to be doing quite well.
