Purple Hornet Zoas

Went to AC today and saw they had a really nice colony for 89.99. I'm sure this particular zoa variety is still pretty expensive/rare? Just a heads up for some of you all.

those are blue hornets so they say. and they dont look like like the ones i have or what you see on the net. maybe just stress out.

Don't pay any more for any zoa than you want it in your tank. These "names" are imaginary, and even if they are based on something.. the supplier will name whatever vaguely looks like the latest trend something when they put it on their list.. OR the LFS just calls it something when it shows up.

or give it a year or 2 and they will come down on prices. i always like the blue hornets more then the purple. i think they are more colorful.
lets call them (AC hornets)LOL. the ones at Aqautic Critter.

As a relative "newbie" to the salt water realm (approximately 11 months), I find the different names given to the same fish, inverts and corals both online and at LFSs confusing and perplexing... Not at all like the freshwater world I had 25 years experience in. I've learned (the hard way, it seems) if I see something at a LFS or online that I like/want, to spend considerable time researching/confirming using books, the internet and MTRC members.

On the bright-side, it usually means more frequent trips to the LFSs! It just wouldn't be a proper Sunday without a 1.25 hour trip to Nashville!

I think a good piece of advice is if you dont know that you can trust the source on a name brand coral dont buy it. (If you want to know for sure you have the real deal, to some its not important to others its very important)

I got my bleu hornets from Mitch at fishy bizz in bowling green. 2 years ago before the big hype. I got a frag of 10polpys for $20. Great find

I stopped by to see the polyps at AC, and I don't think they are Blue Hornets. They look like slightly faded African Blue Steel polyps which are still nice, but not quite the same as a hornet. They are commonly sold as Blue hornets, but the ring is thicker and they lack the alternating skirt. I just wanted to make everyone aware, so that they do not purchase them thinking they will fetch the insane price that True blues do. It is a very nice colony size though, and would look great in anyones tank.

Personally, I think the name game with the crazy high prices is insane, and buy polyps that I like the look of regardless of the name.

Just went to AC and saw these. They look just like what I bought from them last week in the $20 tank. 15-20 polyps, I'll post a pic later tonight...
