Purple Hornets not opening

So it has been a week now since I got a Purple Hornet frag, and they are yet to open.

I tested my PH, alk, cal, & mag. Mag and Calcium are a little low, but everything else is fine.

I don't see how low calcium could affect a soft coral, but I am unsure of the magnesium. Could the magnesium be why this coral is not opening up?

What else might it be?

Thanks

What kind of flow is it under, also lighting conditions?

Is it possible that something in your tank (cleaner shirmp, snails) is nudging against it from time to time prohibiting it to open up?

It is towards the bottom of my tank. I have 6 T5s bulb overdriven on Icecap 660s. My tank is 22" tall. I have shrimp, but I don't see how that could be the cause because these are the only zoos in the tank that are not opening.

Give it some time. I've had a single polyp (by itself) not open for about 2 weeks, and when it started opening, it only opened partially showing a little of the skirt. Eventually after nearly 3 weeks, it opened up completely. Just give it good flow and lighting - flow is important as you don't want any algae encroaching onto the polyps. HTH, let us know if you eventually see it open :)

Yeah give it time. I sold a frag of purple hornets to someone once that did not open for the first two weeks. They are hardy polyps, sometimes stress just causes them to close up and stay closed up for awhile.

If the closed polyp is still holding its shape and doesn't look like its shrinking/melting, I wouldn't worry. I've had same issues at times too. Just watch them to make sure they're not melting

Starting to get a little worried now. It will be three weeks Thursday and these guys still are not open. They do not appear to be melting away, which is a good thing.

have you tried an iodine dip yet? pufferpunk turned me on to vitamin c for zoanthids that are melting. she says she has had great success with this method. you may want to give it a shot.

leave them be mine didnt open for weeks when i left them alone for like 2 weeks they finally staredt opening again

Gmneil, thats the thing, I have let them be for three weeks now and nothing.

I am seriously considering an iodine dip, and moving them to another tank that I have, I will probably do that some time tomorrow. Do you guys think that I should also dip in revive?

How exactly is the vitamin C thing done? Are there any articles or anything on it?

yes check out my zoanthids are melting. there is pufferpunks reply about the method and where to get the vitamin c and all the rest.

IMO +1 to not bothering them... my hornets are the SAME way, very touchy. Have patience and they'll be fine! :)
