Purple Lobster

Sounds like it won't kill your other fish & inverts if it's not "provoked". That's a new sales pitch to me! What does "provoked" mean - I'm guessing that anything that swims close enough to it will "provoke" it to try to catch it & eat it. IMO not a good choice. JMO.

Hi,

I had one of those kept well fed in a tank with clowns, damsels, anemones and a big hermit crab. Never bothered any of those.

However I think It's not worth buying one as you will never see him or maybe only at night if you have moon light (I did not).

At one point, as I had received new live rock for another tank I kept finding small mantis and just dump them in the tank with the lobster. Well not sure if he ate them but I never saw them again...

Yep - or the ones that say reef safe, with caution. In other words it may or may not eat your corals.

at least it will look good doing it...

ya he is cool but i dont think im going to buy something for 25$$ to see him once on a blue mooooonnn

I have one... as they get bigger they get more comfortable and will come out more. When they are small, they will come out to be hand fed then go and hide quickly. If they are well fed they won't cause too much problems, but if you have small fish that sleep on the sandbed you could have problems as it gets bigger.

i agree not a good choice but you do have a 55 gallon. Keep him well fed.
I'm not sure tank size is going to matter - friend of mine had a reef lobster in a 72 and it still was picking off his smaller fish. Plus it stayed hidden under the rocks 99.999% of the time. Waste of money, IMHO.

I built a cave for mine.. where he could hide in the rocks but still be seen. He would come out in the open to feed or run something out of his territory, then run back into the cave. They are interesting.
