Purple montipori taking over

I have a montipori that I neglected to trim and it's now grown over my rock and has taken over a lot of real estate that I need back. It's not over the rock it's grown on the rock.
How do I get that real estate back ? Can I epoxy a frag plug on top of the monti?
What do you guys suggest.

It's also starting to grown over acro's bases and take over. :headwally:

I have placed rocks directly on monti colonies gaining back some much needed room.

That's why i hate montis:p
Had the same thing happen and since then i quit on them!
If and that's a big if,i try one again i'll place it on a separate rock of it's own so it won't bother/kill/shade other corals.
They will shade to death the acros they can't kill instantly.Fwiw only my encrusting montis were strong enough to kill acros. The plate ones just grew around them.
just my experience

In your case you can
1.Cover it with some epoxy, like you said
2.or if it's not too big you can scrape the base slowly with a sharp tool.I did it with a frag cutter daily.

If you have the time post a pic of it so we can have an idea of how big it is:thumbsup:

I hate encrusting montis for that reason too (caps aren't much better either!) and am done with them too. I have to either cut with bone cutters if I can get at it or turning off the pumps and hitting them with a bit of kalk paste, letting it sit for 10 min or so and then syphoning it off works pretty well to keep them in check.

Here's a shot of it. It sucks cause it taking over so much room.
