Purple mushrooms

Has anyone found a way to keep these guys in check? They are beginning to overrun my tank and I want to control them somehow. I don't mind killing them if someone knows what to use because they are getting out of control.

sell them to other reefers, I hate to hear of reefers killing there coral instead of selling it. Make it pick up only if you don't want to ship it.

I have some of the that variety and they hate bright lights. Lol, that eliminates 90% of the tank from them....

Man, I hate killing them as well but believe me, no one wants this kind. They grow like crazy and are beginning to bother my zoas and some sps to the point that my sps are dying off at the base because they keep stinging them. The zoas are affected in the same way because they just end up closing up. I can't take the rock out to scrape them off because they will just grow back and I already have other zoas or sps' growing on the rocks. Short of tearing down the tank, I need to find a way to control them.

Don't know how many you have, but cut them off at the base and then shoot some kalk paste on the stub. That will kill them, but can be a tedious process if you have tons of them.

Take them into your LswFS. They'll for sure take them and may give you credit.

I've done this already and he won't take anymore..:eek1:

If I was to inject them, what size or gauge needle should I use? I think I tried this before but the solution would not travel through the syringe.

You can use the syringe that comes with certain test kits such as salifert. I have used my old ones for just that.

You don't actually inject the polyps. Cut them off and throw them away. Then the stub that is left on the rock you squirt kalk paste ON TOP of the stub and let it sit there. Like HB said, don't use a needle, just the syringe part. Mix up some kalk into a heavy liquid and suck it up in the syringe. I have used this method to kill shrooms, zoos, xenia, and GSP that I didn't like where they were growing. Never fails, just takes time.

I have plenty growing on the glass that I usually just scrape off and get rid of. Those are the easy ones. It's the ones on the rocks that are tough to manage.

I have a high flow rate. Do I need to turn my pumps off when I do this. If I do, how long do I turn them off for?

Seriously, I will buy some from you! Send me a PM or email, I will gladly pay for priority mail shipping (they are good shippers, so no need to do next day air)...please send them to other reefers instead of killing them! I have a low light setup and would love some purple shrooms!
Email me at archmagev@yahoo.com , PM me, whatever, please let's talk before you just go and kill them all.

Greg

Yeah, I would do it in sections, turn some pumps off for like an hour and do that section, turn them back on, turn others off do another section. I think an hour of the kalk laying on them will do the trick though.
