Purple People Eater. Question/Help

I have noticed this growth under my PPE polyps, can anyone tell me what this is??

you're going to be a happy camper after those babies pop up.. looks like it's sprouting multiple babies at the same time.... I'm guessing two or three polyps will come out of that..

good luck.. keep us posted on how long it takes for the babies to come out and become apparent..

I was really hoping thats what it was.. I inspected them over and over for any sort of disease. But since these are my first zoo giga/Paly, I wasnt sure what reproduction would look like..

Also if that what it is then I can chronicle the sprouting.. That above picture was taken 11/18:rollface:

Marvin I'm going to disagree with your assessment on the grounds that I've had ppe's for a couple years and never had new polyps come out like that.
I have had that werid growth under some polyps(not ppe) before, and it wasn't good. I separated most of the good polyps away from that growth on the colony that had that problem.
Personally I would try and get any polyps that are not connected to that growth away from it to a new rock.
I don't know what it is or what to do about it, but I don't think it's new growth.

That's a tough one. It's hard to say if it's that strange growth we saw here earlier this year with a few reefers or new growth. Who had that really bad?
It's looks a little like both to me, lets hope that turns into new polyps.

What was the workaround for that problem anyway? Cut out the good polyps?

IMO it is new growth!

I have had that happen and turn into new growth. But I also had that happen and then after a few weeks the bubble/cancer just went away leaving the paly's alone, just the way they were.

here's a disturbing pic but I had to share it... this guy ended up popping multiple polyps.. but I didn't keep track with week by week pic.. unfotunately for this frag, I lost it when I moved everything to my 32g..

I had almost the exact same thing, that ended up with all of the polyps that were involved like that dissolving.
Like I said earlier, never seen new polyps come in like that on ppe's.
I really hope it works out for you. Hope to see more pictures of how it turns out.

Got home today from a Thanksgiving trip and this is what I found.

This looks much better then when I left. This to me looks like a third polyp coming out... Let me know what you guys think..

Weird how it went from a growth that looked liked it would cause the eventual death of the polyp to looking like a third polyp sprouting.. I will keep taking pics and follow up in the following days/weeks.

PPE's are a fickle coral. When I re-acquired mine they immeadiately grew 3 new polyps in one month. It took another 3 months to grow 2 more polyps.

The one thing I noticed about my PPE's is when the polyps are ready to sprout a clone, the oral disk becomes elongated, almost elliptical. I have 3 more polyps in my colony that look like this now.

Have you found any secrets to getting them to sprout quicker? More light, More flow, less flow, food, ect.....

I have and it will only cost you a small monthly reoccuring fee of $99., plus a very short 5 year contract.

Seriously, it's a mixed bag when it comes to that coral. They like flow, but not too much. Just enough to make their skirt ruffle sporadically.

As far as lights, I have been using 400 watt MH for almost 10 years now, but I have some compadres that use PC's and lower wattage MH.

With PC's you can keep them higher 5 to 15 inches from the bulbs. MH's, I'd keep them at least 10 to 15 inches from a 250 and probably 18 to 24 inches from a 400. Mine are at the bottom of the tank (24") and off center of the Luminarc Laser beam.

Food, don't get me started... I never feed my corals. They only get what my fish miss and poop.

A really big help is consistency. Try as hard as you possibly can NOT to touch them. If you put them in one spot, leave them there. If yours are cloning, then I'd say they're happy.

Also, keeping your parameters the same (Alk, Ph, Cal, Salinity...) will go a long way with reproducing and coloration. Unless your alk is too low, then it will eventually cause a Ph dropout and that's just plain ugly. Higher alk will also help your corals get deep rich colors.
