Purple Reef Lobster

Has anyone had a purple reef lobster in a reef tank? I really wanted a purple lobster, but my LFS says they are bad. Saltwaterfish.com says they are reef safe and are a great addition to any tank. Why are they bad? Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

I know that we have a giant one at the aquarium I volunteer at. Maybe two feet long, it's a baby, you can hand feed it. We keep it with big and small fish with no problems. I've read good and bad things about the smaller ones. I think that it might pose a threat to small, slow moving fish and other crustations may be killed as well. They are very interesting....

ebess: The purple reef lobster is aggressive to shrimps, crabs, and snails. I don't know how aggressive it is towards fish. It gets fairly large (if you include the tips of its apendages). And also, it hides most of the day.

I have one of these in my reef tank and took it out during a tank move. Its in my sump right now and im considering moving it back to my display. Anyone have any more info on these little guys.

I had a freind that I told not to buy one. Mind you this freind never listened to me so I dont know why he even bothers to ask. Well he called me and said my gobies dead what could have done it. This was after adding the purple reef lobster. I said you PRL. A week later he called and said My firefish is missing what could have done it. I said your PRL. He called me and said my 6 lined wrasse is missing, and my other firefish is missing. You guys can guess at this point what ate them all. He removed it stocked up his fish again and no more calles about missing fish. I of course never said I told you so, but I did say that was one very expensive $20.00 shrimp huh??
