This is my "other" PRGMC. While performing tank maintenance a couple months ago I dropped a power head on it and sheered off 90% of it from the rock from which it was protruding. Grrrr!

Anyway, from the "stump" is now emerging new projections such as the one pictured below. This allowed me to play with depth of field in this and I shot this shot like 8 times covering an aperature range of 2.8 to 13. Obviously the amount of foreground in focus and background blur varies tremendously between the images and I settled on this one as my favorite.

I wanted to emphasize the polyps at the edge of the rim, and the one peeking out from under the edge in particular. Narrower aperatures resulted in too much of the background in focus which distracted from my intent. A wider aperature resulted in not all polyps at the edge of the rim of the closest protruberance in focus. This one is "just right", for me. There is an understated simplicity I like about it as well as interesting composition, imho.

I think f/4 worked beautifully for you. I always say I'll take a stop of aperture over 2 stops of IS. For one, high shutter speeds are simply a must for freezing motion. For two, you can use DOF creatively such as this wonderful example!

Cool shot. The aperture selection defiantly works well. I like the exposure too!

Thanks for sharing Ken.

It is hard to believe that that is taken of the same coral in my tank. It does not even look close.

Great shot thanks, It inspires me.

Thanks guys!

racefanfoster, a pic of my "better" (one I didn't drop a powerhead on) purple rim green monti cap can be seen here.
