lighting is not an issue as sponges are non photosynthetic, as long as it recieves the same amounts of nutrients as it did in ts previous location its fine.
(i have white and yellow sponges growing in direct light)
My experience is that although they dont use light many sponges recede from it. Unless its a variety that tolerates light it will likely disappear. Many sponges are nearly completely cryptic.
I have a yellow sponge that has turned quite red on the side exposed to light. Another one that looked like an open clam, and is deep red, has receded to the point that it's pretty much gone. The other sponges seem to be doing just fine - just this one has withered away.
Some sponges & other organisms are negatively effected by UV light. That's one of the reasons why they're found under rocks, in caves, or the mobile ones come out only at night. Another is protection from predation.
