Purple Stylo Issues

I have had a purple stylo for the last couple of months and it has had good growth and great color. Deep vivid purple with bright white tips. I dosed Vibrant about 1.5 months ago and have stopped for the last 3 weeks. Since dosing Vibrant I have had Dino's and lost 2 Birdsnest colonies. For the last two weeks, my Stylo's polyps are not that pronounced and the tips have faded to a more brownish color. Also, it is at the top of my tank. Maybe the combination of Vibrant and high lighting caused this? BTW, bubble algae is gone ;-)

Are you talking about that bleached piece?

If everything else, SPS has been doing good and growing, I would move it to somewhere with less light. I think it‘s good to keep simple, and by that, I mean you cutting out the vibrant dosing was a good move.

Are the other polyps on that piece healthy or is it just that section?

It may be worth considering cutting and saving the good side.

Vibrant probably knocked your phosphates to zero. Have you checked? Low phosphates and nitrates are fine, but zeroes on those will lead to corals struggling and dying.

No. The Millepora frag looks bleached in that picture but it isn't that discolored.

See pictures below. The Stylo that has a box around it is the one I am referring to.

Yes. I tested last night. NO3 around 8-10(Red Sea) and PO4 .04-.06(Hanna ULR)

Those are good numbers. I'd carry on as normal and not make any sudden changes. Maybe increase water changes if you want to do something. Purple stylo is pretty resilient. If it dies on you I can help you out with a new frag [emoji4]

No worries. If it doesn't improve in the next week or so I might move it lower in the tank. I have a piece of it in my frag tank and that one is doing better. Thank you!

Any updates?

Been away for a while. Thanks for checking in. I ended up moving it to my frag tank. I needed to make room for 30 SPS pieces coming in anyways. I fed heavily and have been adding Microbacter7 along with Carbon dosing. Everything including the stylo is looking great and growing.

I second that.

The second picture clearly shows that the growth stalled.

Interesting, I agree with DiscusHeckel. Clearly the vibrant treatment caused a hiccup in growth, even on the somewhat bulletproof Stylophora milka
