Purple Tang Pop Eye

I noticed today that my purple tang has one eye that has "popped" out. Looks like it might be pop-eye?

He is in my 90 gl sw reef setup. Can I treat him in the tank or do I have to remove him? Also, how to treat?

Thanks,
Cindy

Was the fish netted recently? Eye abrasions (often caused by netting, or other trauma) can cause this. It may be a bacterial infection. Start with a couple of good water changes using well mixed/aerated saltwater.
Antibiotic therapy might be in order if you don't see improvement.

Thanks for your response, Jerry. No, the fish hasn't been netted for years. I have been a bit neglectful on my water changes lately, perhaps that has something to do with it, as he tends to show the stress earlier than the others. I have a 90 gl tank...how much water would you recommend changing at a time and how often? Thx! Cindy

The volume/frequency of water changes can hinge on a couple of different factors, but IME, a good routine is 20% every two weeks. I swap out 20-25 gallons on my 120. It's easy to fall behind on this at times but it really makes a difference. I think you'll see a difference.
