Purple Tang?

I think these Tangs are so pretty and would love to have one in my tank, but I have small peaceful fish and read that they are listed as "Aggressive". I don't want other fish living in fear, so any thoughts with this Tang? Thanks~ Sheni

tangs are only aggressive towards other tang species.....if tangs already exists in your tank, try to get a much smaller size of a tang than the one in your tank..or introduce all of them together...worked well for me.

My purple tang went after my blue tang at first, but eventually leave him alone. It does chase other fishes once in a while, but nothing serious.

My purple tang just likes to show everyone who the big, bad, colorful boss is. But no physical annoyance, it's all about just flaring up to show my other fish who is the biggest. lol

tangs will show other tangs whose boss. its alot like the wolf pack, they are going to figure out whose at top and so on. as far as your other fish he will show them who is boss, but they will be for a day or so and then they will be fine.

Great, that doesn't sound too bad. He will be the last fish that I add, besides a Mandarin.

I think that is the key...Add him last. I had one that was a bruiser and he pounded my Copperband to death. But both of the Purples that I have had over the years never would bug anybody that was established before them but you are really rolling the dice it seems if you add fish after he is in (your mileage may vary..just my experience)

Purple Tangs are Beautiful fish but are agressive. Make sure he is the last fish you add otherwise you will be in trouble. I put a many banded angel fish in their and he attacked him right away. I had to take the angel out and ut him in my aquapod otherwise the tang would have killed him. The angel was taken back to my LFS. NOw I can only have three fish in my 90 gallon.

Tangs will attack fish that are simillar to them, like other tangs, angels, rabbitfishes and they can be especially nasty to butterflyfishes.

Thank goodness, it will be my last addition besides a Mandarin later. Hopefully nothing will happen to the others as I would hate to not be able to add if needed. I really want a peaceful tank and have been so careful to do that, this my first aggressive.
