Purple up bad?

As long you keep your Alk,Ca,Mg at right level. you don't need Purple Up. I think it just Calcium, but not in stable form.

I think what the poster above is trying to say is that you might find a better explanation of the product the reef chemistry forum. But I believe NVTE is correct in that if your big 3 are where they should, purple up is of no use.

OK, dont really want to start an arguement or whatever, but i have been dosing 5ml of purple up for two months right after weekly water changes. I also run a BRS doser(1.1ml per min) 25mins a day for my calc and alk. The only problem i had since dosing purple up is that mushrooms have been growing like crazy and i have to scrape the glass for coraline more frequently.

Whenever i get home i will post a pic of before and after pic of my sps after dosing purple up.

Purple up states that it is a calcium, strontium, and magnesium additive that also supplies carbonate. Mostlikely this is with a buffering agent of some kind (-OH). Essentially, it is a very expensive way of introducing additives that can be bought much cheaper online.

Just do your two part like you have been and toss the purple up. Waste of money and you'll have purple rocks soon enough. I'm a bit annoyed buy the encrusting weed myself;)

I also think purple up is just another way to add calcium. There are much cheaper alternatives. I also hate scraping coraline algae off the glass. Just one more thing to do. Especially when it's near the corners of the tank near the silicone.
