So i have been using Purple Up for 2 weeks now, the only thing is i wanted to know if anyone is actually using their recommended dosing? Seems a bit crazy to me... I'm doing a capful a week. On the bottle its saying you can use a capful every day or so..

I just wanted to try this out, and I have noticed my rock color accel a bit.

Its a 30 gallon reef . Fyi.

thanks, i would have searched.. but ... yea. not working a week later.

I would not use it. I'd switch to a 2 part solution. I use Seachem's 2 part because it has Mag and Strontium in the Calcium supplement. This way you can balance your Alk, Calcium, and Mag to grow coraline.

If you want good color on your rocks your best bet is a good 2 part Alkalinity and Calcium additive plus add Magnesium to maintain your levels. Maintaining those 3 things will save you a ton of headaches in this hobby. Don't waste your money on Purple Up or any other additives the LFS tries to sell you.

coralfarm thanks! do you have any names youd like to drop for me... for the products you are recommending to me?

killagoby..you too- ty.!

Here is some good reading material and a good website to help you with any dosing needs for the product you choose.

Randy's DIY 2 part plus Magnesium additive is what I use http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php

I purchase the Baking Soda and Epsom Salts locally at any store like Wal-Mart and purchase the Calcium Chloride and Magnesium Chloride at these sites.

B-Ionic 2 part plus Magnesium Supplement is also popular, but much more expesive.

Here is a reef calculator to help you figure out how much to dose. You will need good test kits for Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium. All 3 are needed but Alk is by far the most important of all test kits to own IMO.
