Purples and blues

I guess it would depend on the coral. I've heard the purple and German blue digitataa, for example, need high light to keep their coloration.

I have several Blue and Purple SPS colonies and have kept them under high lighting. The higher the better in my experience. 400 WATT Halides 10 inches from the bulb in some cases.

as stated think it depends, i have some purple haze monti it pretty much wants to be fried close to the surface, although my purple tort likes lower in the tank...same with my blue milli's they tend to like mid level in the tank

When you say mid level in your tank how far away from top of the water + what is the distance your light to the top of the water"¦.

I've seen nice purples and blues unders several different SE bulb combinations. MOST being under 14K Aquaconnect bulbs supplemented with VHO super actinics. This seems to be the best combination in colors I've seen. FWIW the Zeo supplement PIF (Potassium Iodide) has gave my blues a boost. Read before you decide to dose anything though..

I grew brilliant purple haze monti on the floor of my 31" tall tank, so I think corals are quite adaptable. Maybe you could ask about particular corals?

Wow that's intense, why not mount it on the bulb? :)
