Pushing the limits

I keep lots of tangs together, with chaos there is peace. Lots of tangs and nobody gets picked on.

Currently I have 9 Yellows, a Purple, Chevron, Atlantic Blue and 2 hippos.

This photo is from last year, before my crash - 8 yellows, 2 blues, 1 purple, 2 chevron and an Achilles.

My experience keeping tangs in groups leads to less aggression. This excludes Sohal and Clown tangs, I've never had one that wasn't means as could be.

In starting a collection of tangs I always start with an odd number of fish.

At the moment I do have 2 yellow tangs in my frag tank. They started as a trio, and one didn't make it. These 2 have been together for about 7 months now. They are glued to each other. But I would never recommend putting in just two tangs to start.

It's too bad. You had many good looking fish. Venustus, male Bellus, Regal, just to name a few that didn't make it to you list. What caused the crash?

Here is my group of yellow tangs. I always wanted a group of them after seeing the amazing yellow brick road of yellow tangs at the Sea World Turtle Reef exhibit.

I haven't had any issues with mixing purple and yellow tangs. And keeping groups of both together has never been an issue.

I think you still have to have a "group" of zebrasoma, but they don't seem to care about color to often.

When I have had established groups of med/lrg yellows and added small yellows ans purples, they yellows get some initial chasing (couple of days) but the purples are usually ignored.

About 2 years ago I had 8 yellows, 1 purple, 1 large chevron, and I accidentally let a tiny chevron into the tank. I was shocked that not a single tang looked at him once or ever paid any attention to him.
