I ordered a few fish that will arrive friday and I would like to just get my basis straight. I have a qt tank that has been up a few months had a few sets of fish through it already. I just want to make sure the coppersafe will not kill the butterfly immediately I would like to keep the fish in there for about 5 weeks and just want to make sure it will be ok and not kill them.
Pearlscale butterfly
white cheek tang
blue sided fairy wrasse

On a side note just wanted to see what you thought on this. I took all my fish out of my show tank and qt them Ich outbreak. I had the fish in the qt for 6 weeks and I transferred them back to the show tank the next day my tang had ich again???? Not sure but a real pain in the A@@ WHY????

Did you treat the fish in QT? How? BTW, I don't think butterflies are any more sensitive to copper than other fish. I prefer Cupramine and a SeaChem copper test kit to Coppersafe. But, whatever works.

I'm ready after 6 weeks to go back as well. I'm pretty nervous about it.

But if it happens, it happens and I'm probably not qt'ing them again. I'll let the ich have it's way and live with it.

Ok thanks I know some fish cant be in coppersafe and just wanted to make sure a butterfly isnt on of them.

I heard fishvet noich is the best stuff for reef aquariums, i heard it actually works I looked up a few posts and pm'd a few people and they said it takes about 3 weeks but is did the job. It kills the ich in the free floating stage so you have to use it for a while to get results but they all said it worked after about 3 weeks so i think ill try it out.

call me a little paranoid but when I quarantine I only add fish together at the beginning of the quarantine cycle and never add anything after that. Once the fish are done in quarantine after two months I tear the quarantine tank and bleach everything, let it dry in air and start the whole process over again when I am ready to buy new fish.

Anyone who has ever fought a real killer battle with parasites wouldn't call that paranoid. If you have to re-cycle your QT every use, here'sa copy of how I do mine, although I just let copper kill everything:

"In regards to Qt cycling; I've done this for years. Get a HOB filter; I really like Aqua-Clear, they have a big sponge and last forever. Don't use the carbon or ceramic noodles that come with the filter. Also, have some extra sponges on hand, they're cheap. Keep a sponge in the flow somewhere in your DT. When you need a QT or HT, just use the sponge that has been in your main system in your QT filter---the QT will be instantly cycled. No ammonia problems. When done, toss the sponge and keep a new one ready in your main system.
BTW, Cupramine copper, used in a QT,will not destroy a bio-filter.
