Putting Liverock In An Intank Or Small Refugium... Why?

What is the reasoning or logic behind placing live rock or live rock rubble in an intank or small refugium... with no sand.... ???

I don't know about the no sand part, but the more live rock you have in a system the better bio filtration you have; thus, a more stable tank.

Sorry kaserpick but I believe that to be untrue, live rock only acts as a filter when there is water flowing through it at an idea rate for the bacteria living inside of it to filter the water. The flow in a tank is not enough to push water in and out of all the holes at the correct rate, instead the way it works is the little creatures like worms and whatnot pushing the water in and out.... but the little creatures wouldn't survive in the back of a all in one tank in the dark.... or even not in the dark!

Since most reefers prefilter before the fuge most of the food for the little pulsating water moving creatures is taken away from them... and even if they dont prefilter there is no sand or anything to trap enough food...

Oh I see what you're saying. I totally understand the worm thing then. Explain to me why the fuge wouldn't have enough flow for the LR? Again, just curious. Thanks for the reply.

you could always use a powerhead... or alot of live rock. I prefer about 2 lbs per gallon + 1-2 lbs of liverock.. my current setup is as follows:

2 Gallon acrylic nano
2 Lbs fiji rock
2lbs gravel

I just started it and am very excited about it right now!

even with low flow and no light the rubble rock in a filter or somewhere will indeed still filter. Bacteria will still multiply on the rock but it is a little bit of a different kind its not the same as the stuff that is in the light

I have rubble in two unlite fuges on two tanks. I can't really see into one (AC modified) but the other one is teeming with pods and worms. The rubble is habitate without predators....

The rubble fuge is on the right and the caulerpa is so thick now the rubble gets minimal light .......
