putty killing frags?

I used epoxy/putty and directly glued a frag to a rock a few days ago and now the base is bleaching. I did several other frags on the same day, which are fine. These were already mounted so the putty did not touch the frag.

Guess that was a boo boo huh? :(

I know I read a forum post or something from reefermadness saying they do not recommend using putty/epoxy mix to attach frags and their garauntee wasn't going to cover those attached with epoxy in the future.

Apparently the chemical reaction/heat produced may be causing the reaction to the tissue. They recommend super glue gel.

I have always used super glue gel to attach my frags and have never had an RTN or bleaching. The nice thing about super glue gel is it also cures underwater. Sometimes its tricky to get it to attach. I usually glob it up on the bottom of the frag and then rotate the frag in small circles on the spot I want it to adhere. I hold it in place 30 seconds or so and wallah...

It is also recommended to simply place any frag in the aquarium without attaching it for a few days. This is to allow for acclimation and any healing from fresh cuts.

Thanks for the replies.

I am not sure what happened other than the frags that I didnt epoxy are doing fine. Also have a couple of anemones that may have done some damage. Now gotta figure out how to get them out of the tank..another topic.
