Yup That Stuff
hi, i was wondering if anyone uses anything other than silicone to keep pvc pieces bonded together?

i think you need pvc glue to put them togheter, you can get clear700 pvc glue, if u just glue silicon on them and run pressure they will come apart, now im new to this and dont know if residue from glue will harm water and or livestock. good luck

no just let it dry and can use it right away. Have used it ever since I plumbed my first tank with no ill effects.

no problem good luck on your project. just remember one rule of thumb don't work on plumbing unless there is a hardware store open  I speak from experience!

yea i know whay you mean about the hardware store being open...lol.. had that happen a few times before....thanks guys

Use the Christy's Red Hot Blue Glue. It is good for all pvc plumbing ( Schedule 40, 80, and flex). Use a cleaner on both pieces, glue on each piece, and when putting them together make sure you twist at least 90 degrees to get a good seal. The glue is safe for all drinking supplied water lines.

what texture does pvc cement have?

similar to corn syrup. Best example I could think of

I would always wait the recommended two hours for cure time on PVC cement... otherwise it can develop small vents in lines carrying a suction... introducing air into the line. Other than that just prime the pieces with purple primer and follow it with PVC cement, following the instructions on the bottles.

yepper, also learned the hard way. Never start working on the house water system at 4 in the afternoon on a Sunday, even if you believe you have all of the right parts.

I understand the quote. The only problem is that leaves Saturday morning only to work on plumbing as they all close at 5 (before I get home) on weekdays, and at 2 on Saturdays. The only time I could get to a plumbing supply (other than home depot) is on Saturday morning.

Ummm one thing that I didn't read mentioned, that needs to be. You need to use PVC Primer as well as the cement. The Primer is put on both pieces first...it softens the pieces and allows the cement to "soak" into the pieces. Then you add the cement, put the pieces together, give them a 1/4 turn and hold them in place for a few seconds. It only takes a few minutes to totally dry and after about 15 minutes, it's safe for your tank.
