PVC Glue in running system

looking to add more outlets to my return water manifold on my running system now,,,I have to cut and add a few more outlets to my manifold and have cut the pvc and then glue new fittings then turn my system back on....
Is there any hazards of the fresh pvc glue interacting with my system being turned back on so soon??? or what should I do??
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The glue needs to cure before you can run water through it. Chemicals will leak into the water. Anyway to isolate just that section turn off a manifold ball valve so you can have air in the gluing section and water flowing to your DT?

actually no,,I would have to shut the system down and do my mods and then start it back up an hour or two later..any ideas to keep tanks alive without my manifold running??? I was scared to hear what you said,,but I figured I ask first..thanks

No you dont.

The glue will form a skin when it comes in contact with water. Glue accidentally dropped in the tank just forms a skin on the surface you can remove easily.

You can glue it, let it sit for about 3 minutes and turn it on. No aquarium pumps have enough pressure to blow the joints apart once glued even if its not fully cured.

Done it many times, even when I used to work at a LFS and doing maintenance for them.

If you have any worries just run some carbon. Its no big deal.

Just how fast do you expect things to die? Unless your tank is in a place where the temperature difference is far from ideal i'd say its fine to take a sump off for a good long while. More so if you compensate. Your powerheads should still be on, right? If temperature really will be an issue move your heater to the tank temporarily. Flow and temperature covered everything should be fine. I don't think your lights should be affected either so...

While you can glue and use fittings really quite quick, there is no reason to rush and make mistakes, take your time, everything can survive shutting the return down until you are done.

In a perfect world, you would let the freshly glued pieces sit until the odor goes away. This not being a perfect world, I have cut, glued, and had water running again in under 5 minutes on many occasions without any issues.

You can get fast drying glue for pipes that is fully cured pressure ready in 15 min I got some from a plumber check a plumbing supply place should have it. It's normal weld on but the label was blue

Likewise. Done this many, many times. I typically only put glue on the pipe, not inside the fitting, so the mechanical motion of pushing the former into the latter does not push excess glue into the water stream. Also, I sometimes wrap a bit of tape around the first 1/4" of the pipe so that it remains free of the solvent glue, thus further minimizing the chance of getting glue into the water. Probably unecessary, but I wouldn't be a reefer if I wasn't at least partially paranoid :)

Also, you dont have to really be in that much of a rush to get your system running again. As long as you have powerheads going in your tank you can let your tank run without a skimmer/sump for quite a few hours.

+1, just added/changed some plumbing on my DT yesterday. Went from hard plumb to spa lines, I let the PVC cement dry for about 20 min and kicked the system back on. No problems. I have done this several times in the past as well.
