I'm using PVC to plumb my new 55. I would like opinions on what you have used to put the pipe together.

PVC glue for anything not in the water, no glue for any joint under/above water (closed loop, returns, overflow kit).

Same as Lloyd. You must glue anything outside the tank PERIOD. You should also prime the plastic before gluing it. If not you will come home to a room soaked with water.

phljess, I know this has nothing to do with this post, but my pm box is not full, it is saying it is but it has nothing in it, it has been doing that for over a month now, weird huh. I don't know what to do about it. Email me if you can about the corals at timandnancys@peoplepc.com
Thanks

About this thread...I have learned that mixing aquarium glue with super glue gel works wonderfully. I use it for outside pipes and inside pipes. (if this is not a good idea, please let me know. I have had no problems with it at all) I don't want to give bad advice to anyone :(

*Sorry to say but this is not a good idea. The main reason is that PVC "glue" is actually not a true glue, its a bonding agent. When it is applied to the PVC it actually fuses the plastics together. Regular glues or silicone will not do this. I would not recommend using anything other than PVC glue or the correct type of Weldon that will bond PVC when putting pipe together outside the tank. Shoot thats what the stuff is made for why would anyone want to use something else in the first place?

I should have been more clear. The plumbing that is completely outside of the tank is fused together with PVC glue, my husband does that all for me as he is a plumber and has all of the stuff. What I use the mix for is all of the pipes inside the tank and the pipes I have that is outside of the tank but has contact with the water because it is directly above the tank (as in the pipes I used on my SQUID that is above the tank) But I am glad you cleared that up, because when it all comes down to it, all you can really count on is the PVC glue to actually work because it does melt and fuse the pipes together bonding them into one, as long as you do not have it inside your tank. I personally like the mix because I tried using only silicone and it just peels off, and the super glue dries and cracks, seems like the mix gives the balance. This is all just my opionion and I do not want anyone thinking I know what I am talking about :), Phillip does this all the time and I trust him completely.
