PVC Pipe for aquascape

Anyone have it? Would love to see some pictures and hear ideas. I'm planning on doing this for my 125.
Thanks!

I tried it in my 140, but ended up ripping most of it out. I tried to build a fairly tall (8" if I recall) platform but found that hiding the thing with rock was more trouble than just stacking rock. I had the benefit of 24" front to back space and it still didn't work out. (With just 18" on a 125, the problem would be potentially worse.)

Funny you should ask Micki - I just did that on Sunday for my 58. I used 3/4 in. PVC and built a rectangle shelf. It is about 7" high, 10"wide and 6 deep. I did this while I was reaquascaping, I will take a picture tonight.

I would look into buying acrylic rods online then acrylic sheet and making the racks.. that way they are hard to see if its not completly covered up with rock.. I Know some guys who have done it and its nice...

artful-dodger, sorry to hear that. I was hoping for most positive results. The main reason I'm going this route is because I will ahve a see through tank and I don't want any rock up against the glass.

Toddrtrex, that would be great! Did you find it difficult to do? I'm anxious to see and hear how it all went for you!

The hardest part was cutting the PVC pipe - bought a 8' section, my handsaw is dull and cutting a round pipe on two foot stools was a PITA. That being said it was pretty easy. Honestly the hardest part of the whole thing was reaquascaping - I have the marks on my hands (mainly from my Haddoni) to prove it.

WIll def work better especially for visuals... Get some weldon 16 or 40 to attach the rods to the sheet... Will cost you more but will be worth the results.. let me see if I can find the thread about this from awhile ago.. Not sure if I can but I will try for you...

Todd, is it straight or do you have different "shelves" (for lack of a better word)?

I did just one straight one - it is about half the length of the back wall - Would like to have been a little more creative but I was limited by space available in my 58g. When and if I redo my 75 I will get more creative. Unless you are really looking you cant see the PVC at all.

Nice link, jeff. One thing I want to note - the price of all the PVC pieces (including the 8' section) was only $5 at Home Depot. Since I wasn't sure if I was going to like this look or not I wanted to go the cheaper route first (granted I didn't price out acrylic)

Jeff, thanks for the thread. Only one of the three pictures came out. Ilooked in his gallery but not sure if that tanks is the tank with the acrylic. I'm liking this idea more and more. I really want shelves and I am concerned with the PVC and getting that to work.

Todd, I would like to see your pics. We may even combine the two. lol

I know acrylic isn't cheap. My husband maight make the sump/fuge himself out of acrylic. We are now in the process of deciding if it's just as cost effective to buy an already made sump/fuge. but, I have had a few too many rock slides in my 55 and with not wanting any rock touching the glass on the 125, I thinkit might be worth the extra $$ to make the aquascape from acrylic.

Micki - I will take the pics. when I get home from work - Want to wait a day or two before taking any to let thing setle down. And why didn't you start this thread last week. : )

LOL, my timing has never been one of my strong suits! A day late and a dollar short, My life... LOL

Hope this helps with your decision.. Madison OUinLA is also a great guy I would price him out for your acrylic aswell... He is also in that thread.

Peace and happy reefing, Jeff

Jeff, I'm looking for the "Madison" person on that link. I would be happy to check prices for there. Not finding it. It's probably right before my very eyes... Also, do you know if "Bob" has more pictures, or if he would mind me sending him a message asking questions?

No Bob would not mind at all hes a very good guy.. I am not sure if he has more pics or not possibly.. Madison "OUinLA: is his handle on here... Tell them gqjeff sent you they are both good people...

Peace, Jeff
