Pygmy Angel

I thinking about putting a Pygmy Angel in my Solana. Has anyone had luck with this Angel and corals?

There are any number of species of pygmy angelfish. Which one did you have in mind?

Oh, and if this is for a smaller tank, my recommendation will probably be against it.

I am going to assume that you are referring to C. Argi. They are great little fish, but don't let their small size fool you -- they are tough. Could almost say that they have an Napoleon complex.

Is that tank around 30 gallons? (( not too familiar with it )) What other fish do you have/planning?

To confirm what you are talking about, is it this? (( this was my C. Argi, just sold it yesterday -- needed to make room for a different fish that doesn't come around all that often ))

C. argi are known as one of the most aggressive Centropyge.

I have a C. Argi in my 65 and it is middle of the road aggression. Hasn't touched anything as far as corals or my clam, but it can be territorial. It was actually kicked out of its cave by my pair of clowns who decided to use it for spawning. It did bully my possum wrasse when I first put it in, but I have added two larger fish sinse then and it didnt even look twice at them. So you either need to add it last or get a small one and add something larger after it. But with a 30 gallon I would suggest adding it last.

When my C. argi was alive in my 36gal reef, it was known to kill fish introduced after it. They become TYRANTS in tanks smaller than 50 gallons. Never had a problem with him & corals ( Except maybe for Zoas, but I think the LFS sold me the WRONG species of hermit crabs! <wink>). Pretty fish, but little gangsters in personality!

Yup. Like Todd said, don't let their small size and cute looks fool you.

I have had two C. argi's in the past and loved them both. Active little fish and, yes, a bit territorial. However, they were in a 225 and a 180 respectively, and the aggression was minimized by the ample room. Never had issues with nipping on corals or clams.

I kept an amazing little C. argi for a couple years, absolutely loved that fish. He definitely had the "Napolean complex" as Todd put it, but was in a 150 gal so basically just chased fish here and there, never did any real damage (to fish). This tank was a "mixed reef" with wellsos, acros, montis, xenia, etc., and he didn't touch anything... for at least a year and a half. This was my first experience with "...and one day the angel might change it's mind." I came home and all three of my wellsos had been torn into, flesh ripped off of half it's body just swaying in the flow. I moved them into a different system and let the fish stay.

Unfortunately, Trachys tend to be irresistible to Centropyge ( & even some Tangs BTW).
MY argi was the posterchild for Hyperactivity! Not restful, watching that fish. He only bothered my damsel as far as fish that were resident when he was added. Actually, he never touched my Wellso, it died after the 2nd tank move. GROWWLL>.
