Pyramid Snails!

Ok i need some help! My derasa died last week due to peppermint shrimp mutilation, and just yesterday I lost one of my corcea's seemingly due to nothing... and today I just found 2 pyramid snails on my other crocea! I think these guys killed my other crocea. If anyone has information on these snails, like how to get rid of them.... I would really appreciate it so that I dont loose all of my clams! I had the derasa for over 6months with lots of growth and the first crocea I have had for almost a year (thats the one I just found the pyramid snails on) and the crocea I just lost was in my tank for 4 months with good growth too. I can't understand how I lost 2 clams in a week when everything is the same as it always was.

the only way is to manually remove them and their eggs, starting with daily exams and gradually reducing as you see less and less of the pyramid snails. it's best to do this and hour or two after lights out as the snails are nocturnal, spending their days hidden down under the clam and coming out to feast on the mantle at night. you will need to do every clam in the system and keep checking until you don't see anymore, then still double check that no new eggs have hatched.

HTH and good luck

thanks that helps a lot! but what do the eggs look like? and if my last clam does die can I just wait a certain amount of time and the snails will die?

the eggs will look like a small sac attached to the side of the clams shell. the snails can live off other molluscs too so you would have to make sure they were all gone before starting over.

good luck

you had a deresa in a 12g aquapod?

Well anyways - are you certain you have pyramids? They look awfully similar to rissoid snails.

These pyrams don't just magically appear in a tank - they or their eggs hitch in. When was the last time you added a clam?

Do you have a pic of these pyrams?
