I've got these guys on my T. deresa.

What do I do?

I've taken him out and toothbrushed him all over, got off as many as I could see. He's now back in the tank -- my QT cracked - OMG - and I have no other place for him right now.

What do I do other than remove the snails? Is there a way to keep them from infecting my other clam?

Thanks for the help.

Fresh water dip will not help. You just need to continue to clean your clam weekly (and all other clams in your tank) until you go fore several week without seening any of these parasitc snails. Once this is done you are home free but I would recommend that your continue to check for several months. Only two of these snails are need to eventually start another infestation.

If the freshwater dip kills the snails, should I dip AND brush the clam in freshwater? Will this help or will it stress out the clam.
I just noticed two or three snails on him this morning. I'll have to brush him again.

Is this the only way to get rid of PS?

I've also got a small T. crocea attached to the rocks. I dont' see any PS on him. Is there a way to get him out without hurting his foot? Should I wait until I see snails on him; he's 1.5 feet from the derasa.

Thanks for the help

Thanks, critterkeeper. That really gives me the info I need. What a PITA.

Does taking the clam out of the tank every day or so have any permanent ill effects? I guess he'll be happy the snails are gone.

He won't mind. Just get those snails off of him. Fresh water dip will not help with these snails so don't even try to treat these snails with FWD. If you have PMD that is another mater.

You can cut the threads and remove him from the rock. The snails stay between the shell and the rock, so cutting of the rock is essential. If you have a sand bed, just place him on the sand until all the snails are gone. If you don't have a sand bed, get a container and put some sand in it and keep him there. Once the snails are gone from your tank, you can place him on the rock.
Always crean all clams before you put them into your tank. Quarantine is great but most of us don't have adequate light over our quarantine tank. (I do now)

Before I cut him lose, shoud I wait to see if he's infected with the PS?
You can. Check at night. That is when the snails come out and do their dirty deeds.
Cutting the thread will not hurt the clam.

They only come out at night. IME, there is no effective predator in our tank. Other people report various wrasses but I find that none work wekk. Some of the wrasse I tryed go after the clams instead of the snails. Wrasses are dificult to get out of reeftank.
