Q about RODI

I'm looking to get a new RO unit and need a little bit of advice.
Is there a difference between a 4 stage or 5 stage or 6,7 etc ? I have a tank with LPS so it doesn't have to be perfect water quality. Also is there any difference between a name brand RO unit at $200-300 or a cheap one $100 from ebay ? Just want to know if it is worth the premium getting a branded one.

I think I read something on here about making sure you get one with the DI filters that hang vertically and not horizontally, but I'm not 100% sure what the difference is. I have that same SpectraPure setup in 90 GPD that I am installing tonight. It looks pretty well built. The other things I've read on here is with any of the "off" brand ones make sure the filters are a standard size and readily available.

I heard nothing but good things about the spectrapure so I went that route. I actually called them directly and told them what my tap TDS was and the maxcap was what they recommended to me. My TDS was also around 300 like yours.

it seems to be everything i ever wanted. TDS meter will tell you if your water is decent. i use this for coffee and such as it has the nifty sink hook up. I tee'd off the feed to fill 20G reserve tank to feed my topoff needs.

First I would call your water department and find out if you have chloramines.

Then based upon the answer I would decide from there.
