Q re black & white clownfish

We just received two Ocellaris clowns from LA on Friday. One of them was dead this morning, the other's doing great.
While talking about our next try, I suggested a black and white to go with our orange and white clown.
Your website advertised the clowns as such...

Black & White Percula Clownfish - Tank-Bred
(Amphiprion ocellaris var.)

Listed as Percula in the heading, but as Ocellaris underneath. Which is it actually, and would either pair well with our O. clown?
I've posted a thread about the chances of the fish changing to female while either left alone in the tank for a month (our present fish) or while in the QT tank (the fish we hope to get).
Your opinions?
Also, our next fish will either be a blenny or a firefish, should we order and quarantine that fish now along with the replacement clown?

slam308,

Thank you for your inquiry. We are sorry to hear one of the Ocellaris Clownfish did not survive. Please contact us at 1-800-334-3699, via email at customerservice@LiveAquaria.com, or PM us with your order information, so we may document your file and credit you for your loss. Regarding your questions, the Black and White Percula Clownfish are a type of Ocellaris. If they are introduced to the aquarium at the same time, the tank-raised Black and White Percula Clowns should get along with the tank-raised Ocellaris Clownfish. However, since we cannot guarantee that you would receive a male clownfish or while in quarantine it would remain male, you may have difficulties adding a second clownfish. If you decide to add another clown to your aquarium, one way to help lower aggression among the existing habitants and the new additions would be by rearranging the décor of the tank. By doing this all the fish will have to reestablish their territory. Depending on the size of the quarantine tank, you should be able to acclimate the clown with a blenny or a goby. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Aren't Percula and Ocellaris different type of fish? How can a black & white Percula be a type of Ocellaris?

Approximately how old would a 1-1 1/4" tank bred fish be? How long, typically til they reach sexual maturity?

slam308,

That is an excellent question. Percula Clownfish and Ocellaris are different fish. However, the Black and White Percula Clownfish is also known as the False Percula because it is closely related to, and easily confused with, the True Percula Clownfish from the Indo-Pacific. Tank-raised clowns sized less than two inches are usually less than a year old. Normally they will reach maturity within 9 to 15 months.
