QT Corals Question

Hello everyone,

In the following post (Post #9): http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2156084 Snorvich talks about how he QTs corals for 3 days prior to adding to his DT. He mentions how substrate is the preferred attachment location for protomonts and i'm wondering if this also applies to the coral plugs. Are plugs considered "substrate" in this instance? I have Coral Rx that i use for new corals, but do i need to remove the frags from the plugs in order to be safe from introducing Ich into the tank?

Do people use lights and a tank for this 3 day period? I'm wondering if a bucket would work. I do have an extra tank i could fill up part way and use a light, if needed.

You mean 3 months, right?
3 days won't do much good. Same goes for coral dips.

I currently don't QT corals, simply because I don't have a suitable tank for it.
Also my concern would be more with coral diseases and parasites than fish parasites.

Yeah I have a coral dip that I use. Snorvich was saying he feels 3 days makes an unlikely ich infestation even more unlikely...

I would/do remove the plug. Tomonts can encyst on them. I quarantine everything for 11 weeks but I have a dedicated QT with the proper lighting. You could go less time..it just depends on how much you trust the source and how much risk you are willing to take.
