So picking up a eel for my tank. I have been looking for a zebra eel for the past few months and found one a local member selling. Has anyone qt a eel before if so what did you use as meds? I currently use chloroquine all fish prior to them going into display . Is that eel safe ?

Eels are extremely copper sensitive and no copper based medications should ever be used. because of their slime coat eels don't usually get external parasites. If your'e going to QT it you really only need to worry about internal parasites.

So chloroquine would be okay as its non copper med ?

You might consider tank transfer method (TTM) for Cryptocaryon (ich) elimination instead of meds. Eels are resistant to Crypto, but that doesn't mean that can't get it or be carriers.

TTM requires some work and particularly diligent execution but it is the best to make sure new fish don't bring Ich into your tank.

Unfortunately, by itself, it only works against Ich (Cryptocaryon).

Though since the fish go to new sterilized tanks every 3 days you can do formalin/malachite green baths during the transfers to eliminate possible Amyloodinium, Brooklynella, Trichodina or Uronema infections (and transfers of free ich stages with the fish).
And while in the tanks you can dose PraziPro to clean up flukes and intestinal worms.

So in combination with the above mentioned additions TTM is the ideal preventive quarantine measure for new fish.
