Changing my philosophy in quarantine was one of the best things I've done in recent years. When I started the hobby, I had at best a 50% survival rate of fish making it out of quarantine. After a bit of researching I decided to setup my q-tank to be a normal, nutrient rich setup - complete with sand, live rock, power heads, etc. It's a far cry from the sterile view we get from others, with a BB setup and some PVC for hiding. I also use a bio-wheel HOB filter and a heater with a temp controller. Since changing to this setup I rarely loose a fish and I'm yet to have to remove one to treat it in a hospital tank (with would be my plan if I'd have to treat them). I basically treat it as a second tank, always leaving it up, feeding it and doing water changes.
