QT for angels concerning copper

So after researching about cupramine and angels, it seems they don't tolerate copper. Has anyone had success with specific angels using cupramine? Or does everyone just use the tank transfer or hypo salinity options? I'm fixing to start with angels and want to know the best way to rid them of ich.

Experience is all over the map on this subject. Personally, I use Cupramine on all new fish and I think its safe and effective at .35-.40 ppm. Dwarf angels seem especially copper sensitive. I always make sure fish are eating in the QT first, then increase Cupramine to that level over several days. I've had to remove some Cu and re-start when fish stopped eating a few times. Although I'm comfortable with copper and have used it for years; I think tank transfer is the best way to cure/prevent ich for most folks, it depends on how many fish you have to treat. I don't trust hypo anymore; I suspect some ich strains can handle the low SG and there is just too much room for error.

Thanks Mr Tusk, I'm with you on hypo, I think it may slow ich, but not fully stop it. Is the recommended dose on the bottle of cupramine get you to a concentration of .35-.40ppm? I always make sure the fish is eating then prazi, then cupramine after prazi is removed. As far as tank transfer goes, I just don't have the extra room/tanks/filtration to try it.

Following the bottle directions brings up Cu too fast and too high, IMO. The bottle directions will lead to .25 , then .50 an two days. SeaChem tech support is OK with the slower, lower dosage; they are great folks, don't hesitate to call them for help. 1-888--seachem (I think.) Here's just about all you need, great info---especially the FAQ. http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Cupramine.html

I've put a lot of large angels thru cupramine. .4-.5ppm 3-4 weeks.

Occasionally, the copper will suppress their appetite and they would not feed for a couple of days. Too strong copper for too long makes them susceptible to HLLE(esp pomacanthus angels).

For the most part, large angels handle cupramine very well. I've put blueface(2), emp, chrysurus, personifer(4), scribbled(2), passer, and blueline thru cupramine. The only death was a flagfin, which I had a bad(expired?) test kit and it was my first time using cupramine. I overdosed the fish.

dwarf angels, I only have experience with lemonpeels x5. .4-.5 4weeks cupramine without issues.
