However, it's nice to have a good guidebook on hand to take along with you to a shop.

I suspect that you can feed most tangs with Nori or sea veggie on a clip if you don't have any algae to feed. After all they are herbivores and need veggies. Some will eat Romain lettuce, too.

Tomoko's right about feeding. I doubt that anybody can grow enough vegetation in their display aquarium to keep a tang fed. They are PIGS! All my tangs have always accepted some meaty foods, but they need and get large amounts of green veggies too -- in my case that's usually a frozen herbivore prepared food or spirulina. I also feed nori occasionally.
